We had the blessing to speak with Abigail about her career in music, film and her faith.
Higher Rock: When did you first accept Jesus Christ into your life?
Abigail: I was 5 years old when I first accepted Christ into my heart at church, but it wasn't until the past couple of years that I've fully surrendered everything/my life to him.
Higher Rock: You were a dancer since the age of about 2 years old. What made you decide to embark on a singing career?
Abigail: Performing has always been something I have loved since I can remember. My parents encouraged me to start singing since I would always perform little songs I wrote. I was about 9 when I started my singing journey. :)
Higher Rock: You have been in independent & major films, such as, "God's Not Dead" & "God's Not Dead 2". What was that like being a part of such an amazing production?
Abigail: It's been absolutely incredible. Because of my family's involvement in the film and how "Gods Not Dead" came to be, it has really impacted me. I hear all the time about how the movie has changed people's lives and every time someone mentions it I just think, "WOW God." Our family has been through so much, but he's used us to impact so many people that we could never reach without his help.
Higher Rock: You have also been a part of "I'm Not Ashamed", the story of "Rachel Joy Scott" from the Columbine High School Shooting. Was that an emotional experience for you?
Abigail: When I first read the script, I cried after finishing it. The story is so real and so impactful. Rachel's life changed millions of kids her age because she chose to stand up for what she believed. My dad encouraged me to write a song about it and I started to, but got writers block on it. I was reading through Rachel's published diary book the producers gave me, and it had lyrics and poems all throughout the book. So the song "I'm Not Ashamed" has Rachel's actual words in it. Every time I sing it, I feel so humbled and inspired. This story has impacted
Higher Rock: You have such an amazing resume, filled with so many different avenues.....How do you keep everything so balanced and live a balanced life?
Abigail: By Gods help! Haha. Life is crazy most of the time, but it's when we feel the weakest that he is strong. God keeps reminding me he is in control and that no matter how overwhelmed I feel, his peace comes to calm me back down. Without him, I could do nothing!
Higher Rock: Who would you love to work with that you haven't worked with yet?
Abigail: Honestly, I've loved working with everyone I've had the chance to work with! God has put amazing people in my life to help me further my career. I'm grateful for anyone he puts in my path!
Higher Rock: You are involved in numerous charities, such as, "Compassion International" and local shelters in New Orleans. How has that been rewarding to you?
Abigail: I love serving. It gets me out of myself and into the lives of others. When we serve we stop putting the focus on us and we have a heart of gratitude. I've grown up serving at the food pantry and I've enjoyed it every time I've gone! It brings me so much joy. Compassion International has been absolutely amazing and I've loved being able to sponsor my own child and meet her! It's crazy how God uses us to change a person's life halfway across the world! I pray about what God wants me to do and where I should serve, but really God will use us in anything!
Higher Rock: When/If you have spare time, what do you enjoy doing?
Abigail: Having downtime with reading my bible, watching movies, or sleeping! I love spending time with my family and friends. Connecting with others as we journey through life! I'm really into drama and plays. I love performing on stages and getting into other characters in a live setting! Dancing has also always been a part of my life and no matter where I am, I'm dancing!
Higher Rock: What can we expect to see from "Abigail Duhon" in the future?
Abigail: Currently, I'm working on an album with my new label Dream Records and potential roles in some upcoming movies! Really, whatever God has planned! I take it one step, one day at a time. It's just been an amazing journey and I can't wait for what's ahead! :)
